The dynamic Auger Doppler effect in HF and DF, control of fragment velocities in femtosecond dissociation through photon-energy detuning.

Abstract
Resonant Auger electron spectroscopy has been performed on the HF and the DF molecule, which both exhibit ultra-fast dissociation on the femtosecond time scale. The Doppler splitting of Auger electron lines has been observed and studied with photon energy detuning. It is shown that the difference in photon energy relative to the resonant photon energy is transferred into a difference in the kinetic energy release. The fragment features in the electron spectrum have been simulated with a classical model for the fragment dynamics, reproducing the spectral shape very well. Thus the fragment velocity can be controlled through photon energy detuning.
